Salvation Series - Sin

I.  What is Sin?

     Definitions:

     1. “disobedience to the law of God” (I John 3:4)

     2. “any want of conformity to the character of God”

     3. “breaking God’s rules”

     Practically:

          1. Sin is any time that we do something God has told us not to do, or we do not do something God has told us to do.


II. Where did Sin come from?

     1. Sin originated in Satan

     2. Satan rebelled against God (Ezekiel 28:12-19; Isaiah 14:12-15)

     3. Satan, in his war against God, attacked God’s greatest creation – Man.

     4. Satan tricked Eve into eating the forbidden fruit in Eden (Genesis 3:1-7)

     5. Adam at the fruit willingly (I Timothy 2:14)

     6. Innocence now lost, man had a sinful nature that is passed on (Romans 5:12)


III. Who is a Sinner?

     1. A sinner is someone who sins.

     2. Every person is born a sinner (Romans 3:10 and 3:23)

     3. No one is without excuse.


IV. What does Sin do?

     1. Sin keeps us from entering Heaven. (Rev. 20:11-15)

     2. Sin brings guilt and shame. (Romans 6:19-21)

     3. Sin will destroy you.  (James 1:15)


V.  What is a Christian’s attitude toward sin?

     1.  Since God hates it, we should also.

     2.  We should strive to rid our lives of sin.

     3.  We should help others who are struggling in sin.
